Brisbane Seniors Online (BSOL) is in desperate need of more volunteers for its expanded service in Redcliffe and now North Lakes.
Moreton Bay Region’s growing population is increasing demand for the service which has covered Greater Brisbane for more than 20 years.
Tutors are needed to help seniors and those over 50 with computers and internet at the learner’s home on their own computer or device and at a pace which suits them.
It covers minimising the risk of scams and fraud, making devices safe from viruses and malware and teaches Windows, Apple, Android and Smart phones.
Learners receive, as a guide, 12 hours of lessons. When complete, they get ongoing support for the rest of their membership year.
Ideally, tutors need to be around the same age as those they are teaching. The average age of BSOL learners is 74.
There are no paid staff at BSOL, but tutors are helped through the Mentor Support Group, which meets through Zoom.
Moreton Bay Regional Council has made a financial contribution towards promoting Brisbane Seniors Online.
