Rockin 4 the Homeless finds a home

Posted: 1pm 03 Jul 2020

Organisers of Rockin 4 the Homeless are pinching themselves after securing one of the best venues in Queensland for this year’s gig.

The first of two live shows will be held at Eatons Hill Hotel on December 18 from 5pm-midnight. It will be headlined by The Superjesus and feature Spy V Spy, Team Utopia, Diana Anaid, and Salt & Steel.

The second show will be at Thirsty Chiefs Brewing Co on December 19 from noon-midnight featuring Diana Anaid, Killtoys, Dead Hand Blues, Rhino, Vibrations From the Void and nine other acts.

There will be food trucks, music across two stages, raffles and auctions.

Working together

Rockin 4 the Homeless Director Dan Nebe says hosting the first concert at Eatons Hill Hotel came about following discussions with Moreton Bay Region Industry and Tourism and The Comiskey Group.

“We’re indebted to The Comiskey Group, MBRIT and our sponsors. We’ve had to pinch ourselves. This is one of the top venues in Queensland and it took very little effort for them to say yes,” he says.

The Comiskey Group director Rob Comiskey says his team is looking forward to hosting the event.

“It has been a rough few months for all and, whilst things will hopefully return to normal for us soon, it is important to remember those less fortunate who will continue to struggle long after the effects of the pandemic are felt,” Rob says.

“Homelessness is an issue that needs to be addressed. I am glad we can support the cause and help events like these to raise money.”

Where will the money go?

Every cent raised by the two events will be donated to The Redcliffe Club Redcliffe, an organisation that has been providing free meals and food assistance to community members in need, including the homeless, since 2003.

“Everyone has worked hard on this for seven years and I still think it’s amazing today – even watching the Breakfast Club grow. It’s amazing what a community can do,” Dan says.

“I’m grateful we can provide an event that raises funds for the Breakfast Club and an awareness of what they do. That in itself is worth thousands of dollars … you can’t really put a value on it.”

Helping musicians and the homeless

Dan says this year’s event will also be a boost for the region’s musicians, who have struggled during the COVID-19 shutdown.

“We’re planning a great couple of days in Moreton Bay and are looking forward to it. The energy from the bands is great. It’s something for them to look forward to as well. It’s a win-win at the end of the day,” he says.
