Posted: 12pm 08 May 2020

North Lakes is burgeoning into the decentralised city hub of Brisbane North, the premier go-to destination for all things shopping, dining and entertainment.

Why contend with inner-city congestion, lack of parking and packed sidewalks when you can cruise to this up and coming suburb for leisurely shopping, fantastic dining and fun for the whole family with an increasing range of entertainment options, all a short 15-minute drive from Redcliffe’s Suttons, Margate and Scarborough beaches?

Wondering what to do in North Lakes? Come for the weekend arriving Friday afternoon, and stay nearby in Kallangur Brisbane to see for yourself how this growing hub has upped its game to become a worthy contender rivaling the best of Brisbane city’s shopping and dining precincts.

Stay close-by North Lakes at Kallangur Motel, situated in the heart of Kallangur Brisbane.

The motel features plenty of parking, a pool and a garden BBQ area. It is in close proximity to a tavern, restaurants, cafes, shops, services and a supermarket, as well as a few historical Anzac Memorial Avenue monument sites.

Kallangur Motel is handily located right opposite a bus stop where you can be shuttled straight to the doorstep of North Lakes main precinct, just 3km east from the motel.

Once you’ve settled into your chosen room, get yourself ready for an evening out in North Lakes –there’s always something fun happening on Friday nights in this up and coming northside hotspot.

Wondering What to do in North Lakes on Friday Night?

Kick-start your weekend right and grab a table for Friday night drinks from 5pm at the North Lakes brewers paradise – Thirsty Chiefs.

This family-run brewery comes to life on Friday evening serving up a range of local and imported premium beers, ciders and unique brews, along with great food available from vendors and live music.

Beer lovers can try out unique offerings such as preservative free, gluten free, alcoholic ginger beer and even chilli-infused brews.

With a range of wholesale beers available off the shelf, why not take some home with you, to enjoy by the motel pool along with some BBQ goodness from the motel’s nearby supermarket.

Shop til’ you Drop… into the Cinema

Need to put your feet up and give your arms a rest after your shopping excursion? Then take the escalator up to Event Cinemas to catch one of the latest blockbusters on the big screen.

Event features 4 traditional style cinemas, 2 huge Vmax cinemas and 2 luxurious Gold Class cinemas all with state-of-the-art technology and ultra-modern, comfortable seating design for the ultimate movie-going experience.

Why not indulge in a Gold Class experience for a well-deserved lunch, or dinner. Enjoy a drink in the bar area beforehand and order some scrumptious Gold Class meals and drinks to chow down on during the flick.

Time for a Shopping Excursion

Head to Westfield Shopping Centre for a day of browsing and self-indulgence. Westfield is home to the brand new Queensland IKEA outlet, Event Cinemas, big name brands, boutique stores, supermarkets and eateries.

So what to do in North Lakes Westfield first-up? If you’d rather go straight from Kallangur Brisbane to Westfield, then begin the morning with a caffeine pick-me-up, or gourmet breakfast from the Melbourne laneway themed Coffee Hit in the new Westfield laneway mall, before hitting the shops.

When you’re fuelled up pop into the 29,000 square metre, 2 storey IKEA store – 1 of only 2 Queensland IKEA outlets. The store is found at the end of the newly opened concourse extension housing a whole range of shops including ‘mini majors’ and over 60 specialty stores.

Though the Swedish furniture behemoth specialises in flat pack offerings, you can also find compact decorative indoor and outdoor home items, plus bicycles, kids toys, arts & crafts and more. Or simply browse around to pick up some ideas to spruce up your own home.

Keep the Good Times Rolling Saturday Evening

If you’re not quite ready for the day to end, then pop into one of the bars outside, or nearby Westfield for a spot of socialising, or visit the chocolate café within Westfield for decadent desserts instead.

You’ll find a couple of tipple options to suit your taste – from a beach themed bar & grill, through to taverns and trendy bar & café joints. Alternatively, you could always head back to the motel, drop off your shopping and visit the tavern next door, or Norths Leagues & Services Club 1.2km west of the motel for family friendly dining, or some pokies fun.

Take a Stroll by the Water

Get some sun at North Lakes Town Park and go for a stroll along the Lake Eden Trail nearby featuring 3 parks and playgrounds dotted throughout the vicinity.

The approximate 1.7 kilometre walkway weaves around the whole of the lake offering stunning views of the water and the lake’s resident wildlife.

Once you’ve soaked up enough Vitamin D, you can finish your outing with a leisurely lunch at one of the nearby restaurants, or cafes.
