Design work is now underway on an $8.34 million project to improve safety at a major intersection in the Moreton Bay region.

Transport and Main Roads (TMR) is progressing plans for the junction of Deception Bay Rd, Bay Ave and Moreton Downs Dr in Deception Bay.

TMR says the project will involve removing left-turn slip lanes and traffic islands at the busy intersection.

Signalised left-turn lanes and new pedestrian crossings will then control turning at the intersection, improving safety and reducing the potential for crashes.

Being close to Deception Bay Bus Station, Deception Bay State High School and Market Square Retail Precinct, the aim is to provide safer and more direct crossing for pedestrians, including school children who regularly cross the roads.

The project is being funded under the Queensland Government’s Targeted Road Safety Program.

Key stakeholders and the community will be updated following completion of the design, which is expected for early 2026.
