Act now before bushfire season
Moreton Bay residents are urged to prepare now as the new bushfire season approaches.
The call comes with Moreton Bay City Council conducting planned burns to help minimise the risk and severity of bushfires.
“After one of the wettest seasons in years, we've seen rapid growth in some of our bushlands. But more growth means more fuel on the ground for a bushfire,” said Mayor Peter Flannery.
“These mild, low intensity burns help keep the bush healthy, maintain habitat for native wildlife, reduce fuel loads and protect our homes.
“Every burn is planned well in advance by expert crews, so when you spot smoke, know that we're helping protect what matters most.”
Mayor Flannery said residents can minimise risk by cleaning up yards and gutters and trimming low-lying branches or native shrubs close to their house.
“We should never become complacent around the threat posed by bushfires, especially as we head into the warmer months of the year,” he said.
“It’s important to know your bushfire risk and check if your home has a bushfire hazard overlay by visiting the Council website.”
