Aussie baseballers debut at Intermediate World Series

The Australian baseball team made up of players from the City of Moreton Bay have made their debut at the Little League Intermediate Baseball 50/70 World Series in the United States.

The team, with 12 and 13-year-old players from the Redcliffe Padres, the Narangba Demons and the Pine Rivers Rapids took on a team from Asia-Pacific in Livermore, California this morning.

Despite a blistering performance from Alonzo Zaire Griffin, who struck out 10 batters, the Aussies fell 5-1 to Asia-Pacific.

Xavier Honsa scored Australia’s sole run for the match.

Griffin allowed four hits and three runs over just over four innings, while walking two and Lachlan Richards, who pitched for one innings, allowed two runs.

Tirrell Waiwai and Fletcher Adams also pitched against Asia-Pacific.

Australia’s next hit-out is against a Puerto Rico, representing the Latin-American Region at Max Bauer stadium today (August 2) at 2pm AEST.
