A Moreton Bay school has recorded its best-ever NAPLAN results in a “remarkable turnaround” over the last three years.

In 2022, the Australian Christian College (ACC) Moreton at Caboolture had above average results in just 0-3 NAPLAN domains.

But this year students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 have excelled, putting ACC above the Queensland average in 19 of the 20 domains.

It follows three years’ of academic outcomes trending up - and now a standout results across reading, writing, spelling, grammar and numeracy.

The Cotterill Rd school has also seen a 94 per cent increase in enrolments over the last five years and plans to add a new pre-school "in the coming year”.

“Four years ago, we were sitting below the state average in nearly every NAPLAN domain,” Principal Darren Lawson said.

“To now be exceeding the Queensland average in 19 out of 20 areas is a remarkable improvement and testament to what’s possible by lifting expectations across the board and providing the support, environment and belief to allow our students to succeed.

“This didn’t happen overnight.

"It’s been a deliberate, focused effort - lifting teaching practice, setting clear expectations and creating a school culture where every student is supported and challenged to do their best.

“Our students have worked incredibly hard and our teachers have gone above and beyond to support them. These results are really evidence of that.”

The principal said while ACC wants students to succeed academically, it recognises NAPLAN results are “only a part of what we do as a school”.

“We also want to see our students growing in character, and developing their gifts and talents in sports, the arts, creativity, socially and personally,” Mr Lawson said.

“We want to continue improving in all aspects by further investment in our teaching, facilities and programs, including a new pre-school, so we can give more students access to a great education.”

Australian Christian College Moreton opened in 2009 and now has approaching 2000 students.
