Big opening for new-look skate park

The revamped and expanded Morayfield Skate Park is set to open later this month.

Mayor Peter Flannery urged skaters to bring their boards, roller skates or BMX bikes for the celebration on Saturday February 22, 10am-noon.

“This skate park has received a fantastic $1.9 million upgrade, offering larger, improved spaces to support the growing area,” the Mayor said.

“Morayfield is a key site as part of our Skate Park Renewal Program, which is designed to improve amenities and encourage a healthy and active lifestyle.

“I’m equally looking forward to seeing the transformations of our other sites at Dayboro and North Lakes as well.”

Cr Adam Hain (Div 3) added: “Whether you’re a beginner or a pro, each element of Morayfield Skate Park has been crafted to challenge and excite skaters and riders.

“This is another free space for the community to enjoy, which is especially important right now considering the cost-of-living pressures our local residents are experiencing.

Cr Hain said there will be “pro skaters showing off their moves, live music, a free sausage sizzle and the chance to learn some new tricks.”

The upgraded skate park includes an intermediate-level bowl mini bowl and ramp linking two bowls, open plaza area with street-style obstacles and quarter pipes.

It also has a new vert ramp with spectator seating, large seating areas, improved pathways and shade, drinking fountains and lighting

The event, at Sheepstation Creek Skate Park, corner of Morayfield and Station Rds, is for families and young people. It is an alcohol and smoke-free event.
