Big plans for new eStore
A major supermarket has lodged plans for a new shopping centre and second Queensland eStore on one of Moreton Bay’s busiest roads.
The proposed centre, on five-hectares at the corner of Anzac Ave and Kinsellas Road East in Mango Hill, currently has three drive-through food and drink outlets.
If the development application (DA) is approved, behind them would be a Woolworths supermarket, tenancies and e-Store preparing Woolies’ online orders.
The DA, on Moreton Bay City Council's website, says this would be a “primary distribution point for Woolworths home deliveries in the Brisbane north region”.
A Woolworths’ spokesperson confirmed: “We recently submitted plans for a new neighbourhood shopping centre in Mango Hill.
“The proposal includes a new, modern Woolworths supermarket, accompanied by an eight-bay direct to boot and 20 speciality shops and tenancies.
“It will also include provision for Queensland’s second eStore (online fulfilment hub) enabling more than 5000 orders to be picked each week.
“We believe our plans will contribute positively to the Moreton Bay region, creating more than 500 new jobs throughout construction and operation.
“We’ll continue working closely with the City of Moreton Bay and look forward to receiving feedback on our proposal over the coming months.”
One of the multi-use tenancy buildings would be on the site's Anzac Ave boundary. There will also be more than 340 car parking spaces and eight electric vehicle charging bays.
The DA for 1859 Anzac Ave says the e-Store would use an “automated stock picking system for the selection of the majority of the grocery items for an online order”.
“Some items, such as fruit and vegetables and meat and deli products, will still need to be picked and packed manually by a staff member,” the application says.
Once each crate is filled it is taken away on a conveyor system to be grouped for packing into delivery trucks for home deliveries.
The supermarket giant’s other Queensland eStore is in Maroochydore.
