Blanket drive delivers winter warmth

Students from Hercules Road State School are giving back to the less fortunate by collecting blankets which will help people stay warm this winter.

The school launched its blanket appeal last month, with many students and their parents eager to donate.

The school had hoped the blankets would go towards the new Redcliffe Sleepbus, but they will instead be given to their local charity partner, The Breakfast Club Redcliffe.

Hercules Road State School Head of Curriculum Kellie Judd says she is proud of the students for thinking of others.

“The kids have learnt there are people out there doing it tougher than they are, and how lucky they are to have a bed to go home to every night,” Kellie says.

“I think it’s important for them to realise they can give back to other people, and this is a great way to do that.

“We are very proud of the kids.”

The donation comes off the back of another fundraiser the school held in May, raising $582 for the Redcliffe Sleepbus via a crazy hair and sock fundraiser.

Sleepbus CEO Simon Rowe is grateful for the school's support.

“I am always amazed and so appreciative of when schools get behind the Sleepbus – it’s a beautiful thing to see,” Simon says.
