Blue cheese a cut above the rest

Students from Caboolture State High School scored rave reviews from the judges of the Student Made Cheese Competition Awards.

The school’s Jai entry won the Mould Ripened Cheese Blue category of the awards, which run as part of the Ekka.

Its Alethea entry came second in the same category.

Judge Mark Livermore says the win was well deserved.

“The cheese had a beautiful flavour with a good distribution of blue mould throughout it and was once again a gold medal cheese,” Mark says.

Exceptional quality

Chief Judge Russell Smith says the quality of the cheeses produced in the competition over the past few years has been exceptional.

“The best cheeses we judged … were as good as the commercial cheeses you can buy,” Russell says.

“This year we saw lots of well marbled blue cheeses, which we don’t often see as it’s hard to achieve a nice vein.”

It's the second year in a row the school has won first place for its cheese.
