Boredom busting ideas to keep the kids entertained these holidays

If you’re looking for ways to keep the kids entertained these school holidays, be sure to check out Council’s Summer of Fun school holiday program.

It features plenty of free and low-cost activities for kids of all ages to enjoy.

Mayor Peter Flannery says there is a plethora of activities to suit all interests from Council’s libraries, galleries and museums to environmental centres, as well as the Active Holidays program.

“Bookings for our Active Holidays program, which runs from January 10-23, are now open and it features a range of fun water activities, adventure, sport and nature activities,” he says.

“Learn to juggle with our Circus Skills workshop, find yourself in nature with our all-inclusive scavenger hunt and nature journaling experiences, or you can learn to scooter, skateboard and BMX at one of our skatepark clinics.

“Never fear if you can’t wait until the new year, because there’s plenty happening at our libraries, galleries and museums like the interactive Green Screen exhibition at Pine Rivers Art Gallery where the whole family can create stories using stop-motion animation and more.

“Join the summer reading club at all of our 10 library locations near you, register for our Minecraft Club, build some LEGO creations and much more!

“Nature lovers can also explore any of our environmental centres, from navigating through the natural wonders at CREEC and Kumbartcho with the new Agents of Discovery app to exploring the mangrove wetlands at Osprey House.”

More fun activities

If you don’t want to hear the words “I’m bored” from your kids repeatedly, sign them up to participate in the program’s many hands-on activities.

Additional activities include a children’s art studio, drop in craft, ten pin bowling, Tinker Tank, games days, Makerspace, sand art, puppet shows, skateboard maintenance workshops, a DIY science show, a scavenger hunt, self defence classes and more!
