Breaking ground on new homes

Construction has officially started on 36 new social and affordable homes in Moreton Bay.

The first sod has been turned at the site in Deception Bay which will see 18 social and 18 affordable houses by mid 2027.

Provided by Coast2Bay Housing and built by Badge Constructions, there will be 18 one-bedroom, 12 two-bedroom and six three-bedroom homes.

The project, among 620 social and affordable homes being built in Moreton Bay, is supported by the State Government with funding from the federal Housing Australia Future Fund.

“This complex starting at Deception Bay is exactly the kind of project we want to see more of to meet the housing need in this region,” Housing Minister Sam O’Connor said.

“Providing secure, long-term housing for Queenslanders is vital and we’re working to get as many homes out of the ground where they’re needed most.”

Coast2Bay CEO Andrew Elvin said this project is for low- and moderate-income households.

“These homes will support people who work in our community and need secure, affordable housing close to jobs, services and family,” he said.

“Our strong presence in Moreton Bay, including our local office in Caboolture, means we understand the housing pressures in this region and can provide hands-on, local support.”

Federal Member for Petrie Emma Comer, Queensland Senator Corinne Mulholland and Moreton Bay Acting Mayor Jodie Shipway were also at the sod turning.
