Bribie’s brush with fame

Visitors to the Bribie Island Aquatic Leisure Centre were treated to a behind-the-scenes look as television presenter and documentary maker Todd Sampson filmed a segment for an upcoming project at the weekend.

Aquatics Manager Michelle McKiernan says Sampson, of Gruen and Body Hack fame, was filming one of the centre’s aqua aerobics regulars for a documentary about body image.

“He was there for about an hour and a half, filming throughout the aquatic class,” Michelle says.

“There were a couple of learn-to-swim parents who were quite star-struck.”

Michelle says the centre was approached about filming last week, and made the crew welcome.

“They commented on how clean the facility was, and how welcoming we were,” she says.

Sampson returns

The visit was a return to the Moreton Bay Region for Sampson, who visited mid-2019 for a Business Moreton Bay Region interactive luncheon at the Eatons Hill Hotel.

“It’s important to have a welcoming centre – that’s what I love about my job, that we have a facility where people can come in an enjoy what they do and leave with a smile,” Michelle says.

It’s not Michelle’s first brush with fame.

As an apprentice chef she organised an afternoon tea for former Prime Minister John Howard and she’s met celebrity chefs including Nigella Lawson, Jamie Oliver and the Masterchef judges.
