Bruce Highway upgrade update ahead of Christmas

Transport and Main Roads has provided an update on the Bruce Highway upgrade from Dohles Rocks Rd to Anzac Ave and details of what to expect during the peak Christmas period.

In its December Project Update, TMR says stage one of the project is “progressing well” since kicking off in April this year.

What the construction team has been achieved so far ...

• moved 5400 trucks of dirt from the centre median and started installing the pavement to widen the centre median

• installed 98 noise barrier poles in preparation for new and upgraded noise barriers either side of the Bruce Highway

• drilled 182 bored piles as foundations for the new noise barriers. Bored piles are deep holes drilled and filled with concrete to create strong foundations for heavy structures

• moved 12 electricity power poles to allow space for the two new ramps, including the cables over the Bruce Highway

• installed 121 temporary caution signs while the project is ongoing, as well as 5.5km of concrete barriers

• dug 535m of underground tunnels for drainage, sewer and water

• delivered 25,000 tonnes of rock to site to strengthen the ground for the new ramps.

From Saturday, December 20 to Monday, January 5, construction will temporarily stop for the holiday period. The 80 km/h speed limit on the highway will remain in placed due to changed traffic conditions.

In early 2026, the team will ...

• complete earthworks and commence pavement works on the southbound exit ramp

• complete retaining wall works on the northbound entry ramp

• finalise water and sewer connections

• start to construct the noise barriers on the eastern side of the highway

• install road lighting in the centre median.
