Christmas parade to light up canals

Marine enthusiasts who own boats or jet skis are being urged to register their interest for the upcoming Bribie Island Christmas Lights Boat Parade.

Vessels of all shapes and sizes are invited to dress up their boats and join in the fun for the chance to win some great cash prizes to the value of $1850.

Now in its 12th year, the much-loved event will be held on Saturday, December 10, with a full afternoon of cheer and festivities planned for the whole community to enjoy.

The day will start at 1pm with the team from Bribie Island’s Volunteer Marine Rescue set to pick up Santa and his helper before cruising the canal to hand out lolly bags to children, and maybe even a Schmackos or two for all the good puppies.

There will also be variety of market stalls and food vendors at the Pacific Harbour Marina from 4.30-7.30pm where attendees can grab a bite to eat and pick up some hand-made Christmas gifts.

The main event – the boat parade – will kick off at 7pm, with a line of boats and jet skis taking to the canals to show off their Christmas lights and decorations.

This year, the community will also be able to have their say on what their favourite vessel is with a public vote to be held on Facebook.

Some of the best vantage points to see the parade will be Kakadu Beach, Sea Eagle Park, Sunset Park and the Harbourside Marina.

This year’s parade will also see a local choir make their way through the canals singing all your favourite carols.

This event is organised by local volunteers from the Pacific Harbour Residential Community Association (PHRCA), with help from the Bribie Island Volunteer Marine Rescue, who will safely navigate everyone through the canals.
