Club chasing state awards double

Redcliffe Tennis Centre is a finalist in two categories of the Tennis Queensland annual awards.

It has received its sixth nomination for Club of the Year – an award it won in 2015 and 2019 – and Director Chris Novic is a finalist in the Coach of the Year.

The winners will be announced on Tennis Queensland’s social media channels this week and presented at Queensland’s Parliament House in December.

Whole package

Redcliffe Tennis Centre Director Chris Novic said the Club of the Year award was judged on “everything you offer”.

“The programs, what you do in the community, for charities, holiday camps, with schools, community groups, it’s the whole package,” he said.

“We have started an Indigenous program, we’re linked with the NDIS and we hosted the Special Olympics tennis this year.

Great experience

“That was a great experience. The passion they have, the sportsmanship and the way the support of the parents … that was probably the highlight for myself and the team.”

On his nomination for Coach of the Year, Novic said: “It’s not really about me, it’s about the students.

“I really enjoy working with the younger ones, seeing the reaction when they hit a ball for the first time, being part of the start of their tennis journey.”
