Community comment opens for Moreton Bay City push

Public submissions on the proposal to change the classification of Moreton Bay Regional Council to a city have opened today.

Local Government Minister and Murrumba MP Steven Miles has asked the Local Government Change Commission to assess the proposal, with the views of Moreton Bay residents considered as part of the process.

Electoral Commissioner Pat Vidgen says public feedback will be an important part of the Change Commission’s assessment.

“Local knowledge can be really helpful, and we know a lot of people feel strongly about the arrangements and boundaries in their local area,” Mr Vidgen says.

“Participation is voluntary however we strongly encourage those who want to have a say to make a written submission.”

Submissions close at 5pm on 28 November 2022.

In a letter to Council last month, Mr Vidgen said submissions will be published on the ECQ website by Monday, December 12 and ECQ would continue to aim to provide a report to the Minister for Local Government in March or April next year.
