Community groups join forces for Christmas Spectacular

John Oxley Reserve will host the inaugural Murrumba Christmas Spectacular after Moreton Bay Regional Council gave the event the green light.

The Pine Rivers Rotary Club applied to Council’s community grants team for $11,000 to hire rides, a stage, lights and equipment for the community event.

Cr Yvonne Barlow (Div 7) told this week’s Council meeting it would be “extremely beneficial” for the community and Rotary was working with the Lions Club of Kallangur, U3A Pine Rivers, SES and the Kallangur Scouts to deliver the Spectacular.

|“This is a Christmas function for the whole community,” Cr Barlow said.|

Deputy Mayor Jodie Shipway (Div 4) said while she supported the event, she was concerned using discretionary funds from Council could set a precedent.

“I know groups become so used to getting funds from us each year,” Cr Shipway said.

“I just think that next year, maybe get some sponsors in.

“But I understand the need to get it off the ground and prove its worth.”

A date for the event is yet to be set.
