Praise and sympathy have followed last night’s blaze which destroyed parts of a storage centre next to the Bruce Highway at Burpengary.
More than 25 crews (which includes senior officers) were at the Old Gympie Rd facility during the height of the fire last night.
Queensland Fire and Rescue said this morning: “Crews were able to bring the fire under control on Wednesday evening but will continue to monitor any hotspots throughout today.”
Reports online suggested firies were still damping down the site approaching noon today. Investigations will try to determine the cause.
Storage King has posted on its website that the Burpengary facility is “temporarily closed due to fire incident”.
Attention quickly turned to those who lost possessions in the fire, which saw police issue a nine-hour PSPA emergency declaration for the immediate area.
Jo Gardner wrote on the Queensland Fire Facebook page: “I feel sorry for people who may have photographs of passed members and wedding photos stored in there, it's so sad.
Sandy Beach said: “My friend lost houseful of furniture as they were in the process of moving- no insurance.”
Joey Jo posted: “I had my things there lost everything.”
Others thanked fire fighters, including Kellie Ann who said: “Well done QFS for extinguishing that blaze and keeping everyone safe.”
Mia Brigden added: “Thank you to all the emergency services that worked so hard on this blaze!”
And Julz Ann Rulz wrote: “Well done Emergency Services, Firies, you must be exhausted, hope you’re all safe.”
