Deadline set for new centre

Brisbane Roar’s W-League team is a step closer to calling the Moreton Bay Region home, with designs underway for the new Queensland Centre of Excellence for Women’s Football at South Pine Sports Complex, Brendale.

Mayor Peter Flannery said he wants works completed and ready for a 2023 kick-off, in time for the FIFA Women’s World Cup hosted by Australia.

There are also some changes from the original plans released last July when plans for the centre of excellence was first unveiled.

Two clubhouses

“The centre of excellence will include four new turf fields and two clubhouses – one for Brisbane Roar and one for local clubs Albany Creek Excelsior Football Club and Moreton Bay United Football Club to share.”

Brisbane Roar CEO David Pourre says he cannot wait to see the detailed plans.

“We’re thrilled to have our Westfield W-League squad a step closer to entering their new home in the Moreton Bay region,” Mr Pourre said.

“Our new home is beginning to take shape and we’re looking forward to following the progress and developments over the coming years.”

Stadium upgrade

Council has invested $8.4 million to help upgrade Moreton Daily Stadium to 11,500 capacity so we can attract national competition and the economic benefits of having extra visitors in our region,” says the Mayor.
