Deal for new centre of excellence

City of Moreton Bay is set to become Queensland’s home of table tennis under a new seven-year partnership.

South Pine Sports Centre at Brendale will be the Queensland Table Tennis Centre of Excellence after receiving Olympic-grade equipment.

It is only the second of its kind in Australia and a possible venue for training camps, national and international events.

Under the agreement, the new State’s new Table Tennis Centre of Excellence will host six marquee events estimated to generate more than $6 million of “economic impact”.

Mayor Peter Flannery said the partnership to establish the Queensland Table Tennis Centre of Excellence showcased the City’s commitment to Olympic pathways. 

Talent of tomorrow

“City of Moreton Bay has a strong reputation as a destination for sports and major events,” Mayor Peter Flannery said.

“This new centre will shape the talent of tomorrow and add to our incredible calendar of events, while also benefiting the community by growing access and participation in sport.”

South Pine Indoor Sports Centre will now have 40 new table tennis tables, 550 court barriers, and umpires’ tables.

The Queensland Veteran Closed Championships will be at South Pine Sports Centre on July 16-19 and Queensland Open Championships on November 29-30.

Queensland Junior, Senior and Veterans Closed, Queensland Open and Queensland Schools Table Tennis Championships at the Brendale centre from 2025 to 2031.
