Job seekers can connect directly with potential employers and learn from experts at the Moreton Bay Business & Jobs Expo this week.
The event, on Thursday, October 29 at the Hope Centre, Rothwell, will bring employers, agencies and industry professionals together in one place enabling job seekers to conveniently connect with them to help secure their next role.
Moreton Bay Region Industry and Tourism (MBRIT) CEO Shane Newcombe is encouraging people looking for work to take advantage of this free event.
“We know that the current climate is challenging for many people,” Mr Newcombe says.
“The Moreton Bay Jobs Expo is focused solely on connecting job seekers with potential employers. This is the perfect chance to speak face-to-face with employers and see what opportunities are out there.”
Jobs seekers will also have the chance to take part in workshops and presentations on topics including developing employability skills, career transition assistance, improving job interview skills and more.
Perfect timing
Moreton Bay Region Mayor Peter Flannery says this is an opportunity that should not be missed as business confidence begins to return.
“It’s been devastating this year to see queues of people lining up at Centrelink through no fault of their own,” Mayor Flannery says.
“The coronavirus pandemic has robbed many hardworking families of an income and stalled opportunities for many. But the timing couldn’t be better right now for job seekers wanting to get back into the workforce or those looking to make a move into a new position.
“Businesses are starting to navigate their way back onto the road to recovery and this expo is the perfect time to put your best foot forward.”
Mayor Flannery says Council is doing everything it can to support job seekers and small businesses.
“Our whole 2020-21 Budget was designed to be an economic and jobs stimulator, supporting 3,000 jobs through a $220 million capital works program,” Mayor Flannery says.
“Part of our $34 million stimulus package was fast-tracking $3 million worth of asset maintenance works to keep workers on the tools and even hire new employees while times were tough.
“We’ve helped take the pressure of the hospitality industry by waiving two years’ worth of food licence fees for more than 1100 small businesses, totalling $1.56 million.”
Big program at expo
The Moreton Bay Jobs Expo is part of the Moreton Bay Region Business Expo that will feature more than 140 exhibitors including local businesses and organisations.
The 2020 expanded program welcomes expert presentations on COVID-19 crisis and recovery, employment solutions, Council procurement, and much more.
Innovate Moreton Bay has also joined the exciting new program welcoming special guests including Queensland Chief Entrepreneur Leanne Kemp, who will discuss various topics including the circular economy and building business resilience in times of crisis.
Although the expo is free to attend, event organisers are urging attendees to register ahead of time via the official website.
