Duo sprint to national glory
Angus Dine and Daniel Harlow, pictured above, are the Moreton Bay Region’s newest national champions.
The teenagers, both members of Redcliffe Little Athletics, have won gold at the Australian Track and Field Championships in Sydney this week.
In total, Harlow and Dine, competing for Queensland under the Ipswich and Districts club banner, won three gold medals, one silver and had three other finishes in the top six.
Dine, from Mango Hill, won the Under 15 men’s 100m in a blistering time of 11.24 seconds – a personal best by .22 of a second.
The 14-year-old also won a silver medal as part of the Queensland Under 16 4x100m relay team – stepping up an age group to help the team.
He also took fifth place in the triple jump with a leap of 12.31m.
Harlow, from Redcliffe, won gold in the Under 15 men’s 100m hurdles, clocking 13.75 seconds, a personal best by .03 of s second.
The 13-year-old followed that with gold in the Under 15 men’s 200m hurdles, recording 26.96 seconds – a personal best by 1.16 seconds.
He just missed the medals with fourth at long jump with 6.02m and then sixth in the high jump leaping 1.75m.
It has been a remarkable month for the pair after winning six gold medals at the Queensland Athletics State Championships.
Harlow took the long jump, high jump, 100m hurdles and 200m hurdles. Dine won the 100m and triple jump, plus bronze in 200m and was fifth in the long jump.
