Exclusive: New burger joint to open in December
Burger Urge is on a mission to bring a taste of soul, sass, and some seriously delicious burgers to Burpengary East with the opening of its new rock’n’roll-centric store on December 6.
The Brisbane-founded national franchise, renowned for its fiery Death Wish burgers, will launch its 32nd outlet when it opens a Blues Brothers-inspired restaurant at the new Burpengary East Shopping Centre.
Burger Urge general manager and Burpengary East local Alyse McPhee says residents have been crying out for more dining options on the eastern side of the Bruce Hwy.
“This is one of the fastest-growing regions in Australia but so many families and young couples in the area feel like they have to cross the highway whenever they decide to dine out. We wanted to fix that,” Alyse says.
The new store, which takes its cues from 1980 cult classic The Blues Brothers and will be fitted out to resemble a scene from the movie, will serve up a range of burgers and sides alongside the chain’s signature milkshakes.
"Unlike other restaurant chains, we always try to personalise our stores,” Alyse says.
“That’s one of the things that separates us from other chains. You always get the same great products and service, but every Burger Urge is just that little bit different – which makes you want to visit them all.”
She says the store will do more than just reflect the character of the area.
"This is the kind of place where people know their neighbours,” she said.
“We’re not only bringing new jobs into the community, but we’re putting locals front and centre and giving them a say in how the store is run.”
Urge to expand
The latest addition to the growing Burger Urge stable follows the opening of an Empire Records-themed restaurant in the northern Toowoomba suburb of Wilsonton last October.
It arrives as the popular chain, which launched as a single store on Fortitude Valley’s Brunswick St in 2007, ramps up its nationwide expansion.
“We’re growing at a stable pace we’re comfortable with but, looking medium to long-term, there’s no reason we can’t double our number of stores over time,” Alyse says.
Burger Urge founder and Blues Brothers fan Sean Carthew says he can’t wait to unveil the new outlet to Burpengary locals.
"I’ve seen plenty of classic cars cruising around with the windows down and the rock tunes turned way up, so we’re definitely channelling the spirit of Jake and Elwood,” he says.
“You might even say we’re putting the band back together for this one.”
The new Burger Urge store opens at 137 Uhlmann Rd, Burpengary East, on December 6.
