Free legal advice for flood-hit residents

Flood-affected residents can access free legal support through the Pine Rivers Community Legal Service (PRCLS) at its walk-in clinic at Kallangur Neighbourhood Centre on Friday.

Solicitors at the pop-up flood clinic will be available to assist anyone impacted by the floods with a range of legal issues, including housing and tenancy, property or vehicle damage and insurance, fencing and tree disputes, debt, family separation, domestic and family and violence, and more.

PRCLS Principal Solicitor and Manager Louise Skidmore said the flood clinic addresses issues that have resulted directly and indirectly from the floods.

“Our community legal support for flood-affected residents extends far beyond property damage and insurance claims," she said.

"Catastrophic events, like what we saw with this year’s extensive flooding, can exacerbate underlying, at-risk, or existing issues around debt, family and domestic violence, and family separation.

PRCLS provides advice, information, legal tasks, and referrals to support the Moreton Bay and north Brisbane community.

The service operates in Strathpine, Caboolture, Kallangur, Redcliffe, Bribie Island and Deception Bay and receives government funding for additional legal services for flood-affected individuals and families.

The walk-in flood clinic is at Kallangur Neighbourhood Centre, 51 Marsden Road, Kallangur on Friday July 15 from 9am-3pm. No appointments necessary.
