Free sporting flash forum on offer

Sporting clubs and community groups in the Moreton Bay Region are being urged to take part in a free flash forum to help them be financially viable post-COVID-19.

It’s being organised by Moreton Bay Regional Council on Saturday, August 22 and will run from 8.45am-1.30pm at North Lakes Community Centre, 10 The Corso, North Lakes.

The half-day forum for sporting clubs, community organisations and volunteers will cover topics designed to help them be successful post-COVID-19.

All sessions will be delivered face-to-face, with some sessions available online via live stream.

Forum topics

  • Moreton Bay Recovery Plan
  • Finance
  • Sponsorship
  • My Community Directory
  • Volunteer engagement
  • Governance
  • Funding
  • Building participation
  • Club capacity building

Why this is important

Moreton Bay Region Mayor Peter Flannery says the forum is a practical way Council can help community organisations through the COVID-19 pandemic and to come out stronger on the other side.

“Think of our flash forum as a crash course in essential skills for community and volunteer groups, which we’re providing for free” Mayor Flannery says.

“You’ll get training across 13 useful topics including digital marketing, growing opportunities for participation, volunteer engagement, good financial practices, becoming sponsorship ready and more.

“Spaces are limited due to coronavirus restrictions, so I strongly encourage you register today to make sure you don’t miss out on this invaluable opportunity.”

Eye on recovery

“I’ve repeatedly said we don’t want to see any community organisations slip through the cracks as we chart a course to recovery,” Mayor Flannery says.

“That’s why Council has made this a free event, because we know how much our community groups and sporting clubs need support to recover right now.

“Local community organisations are a part of our region’s social fabric and make Moreton Bay the vibrant place it is to live, which is why we’re investing $49 million into sport and recreation and $2 million into community grants this financial year.

“To date, 630 community groups and clubs have been supported by our COVID-19 stimulus initiatives, and this forum is just another great opportunity to help those groups continue to be financially strong and sustainable organisations.”
