Free workshops for Get Online Week

Learn how to combat loneliness online safely at community events as part of Get Online Week 2024.

Margate-based not-for-profit charity Band of Brothers will host two events with the aim of helping people feel more confident online.

President Bryan Wiseman says the event will be a fun way for people to build their digital skills.

“We’re hosting Get Online Week events because getting online safely can be a great opportunity to grow and combat loneliness, but people need reassurance and guidance,” Bryan says.

The workshops at the Redcliffe Library are among more than 500 free events across the country as part of Get Online Week, which starts on October 14.

Organised by Good Things Australia, Get Online Week reaches more than 15,000 Australians annually, helping them improve their digital skills.

Digital inclusion

Good Things Australia CEO Jess Wilson says Get Online Week gives people the chance to learn new skills.

“With the rapid emergence of AI, it’s even more crucial that everyone has the opportunity to feel digitally included and confident online,” Jess says.

“Our network of community partners (create) accessible events for their communities to take part in.

“Local events reach people in need of digital support who have the opportunity to learn new skills, empowering them to feel safe and confident while connecting with loved ones, shopping online, accessing online services or applying for jobs.”

Local workshops are at Redcliffe Library on October 15 and 17 from 9.30-11.30am.
