Meet for free help to find job

The free Youth Job Meet is back in Moreton Bay next week helping young people find work.

More than 20 employers, training providers, apprenticeship organisations, universities and community services will be at Strathpine Community Centre, 199 Gympie Rd.

Many employers will be offering interviews and employment opportunities during this annual event, on Thursday July 23, from 10am-noon.

The Meet is for anyone, from those looking for their first job, to seeking an apprenticeship, traineeship, further training or just exploring career options.

In a supportive environment, job seekers can meet employers face-to-face, ask questions, build confidence and discover pathways that align with their goals.

Now in its third year, the Youth Job Meet is designed to help bridge the gap between local employers and young people by bringing opportunities together.

The event was established in 2023 through a partnership between The Youth Development Foundation (YDF), Local Jobs Taskforce Somerset Region, APM, SYC, ETC, and MTC.

Since its inception, the Meet has grown, with YDF coordinating this year's event while working alongside its partners to deliver job opportunities.

"We know taking the first step into employment can be challenging for many young people,” YDF Founder and CEO Gerry Blackwell said;.

“The Youth Job Meet removes some of those barriers by giving young people the chance to meet employers directly, explore different career pathways and access real opportunities.

"This event is about building confidence, creating connections and showing young people there are employers and organisations ready to support them as they take their next step."

Employers and organisations at this year’s event will be from hospitality, defence, construction, landscaping, aged care, aquatics, security, education, civil construction, apprenticeships, community services and recruitment.

Many will be hiring, with a number conducting interviews on the day and looking to connect with potential employees.

The YDF has been supporting young people across the Moreton Bay Region since 2014 through education, training, mentoring, and employment programs.

Through initiatives such as the Youth Job Meet, YDF works with employers and community organisations to create pathways and support young people to achieve their goals.
