From five bucks to a fortune

A Deception Bay couple’s post-shopping feed turned into celebrations after they scored $700,000 in a game of Keno.

The Moreton Bay residents scored the Keno Classic 9 Spot jackpot in Keno draw 300, on Sunday and pocketed a total prize of $701,073.20.

When an official from Keno called to confirm the winning news, the doting duo were still pumped with excitement.

“We’re going really good. It’s awesome,” said the winning man said, after buying the winning ticket at Deception Bay Tavern.

“We had a big afternoon and night celebrating afterwards, so we’re a bit in recovery mode today.

“It was such a surprise when it happened. We’d been doing some shopping and just pulled in for lunch.

“Normally, we’d get a $20 ticket together, but amazingly, this time we just got a $5 ticket.

“It’s completely life-changing. We’re just trying to wrap our heads around it all.

“My partner and I have been looking for a rental, but this changes everything. Now we can buy a home!

“Thank you so much for confirming. We were feeling anxious, but now we can let it sink in and start to make some plans.”

Deception Bay Tavern spokesperson Terry Wilson said: “We love seeing our patrons score a Keno prize.

“They’ve always got some fun things planned for their windfalls. I’m sure this winner is no different.

“It’s great to see another win in our venue and we can’t wait to do it again!”

Queenslanders enjoyed more than 27.3 million Keno wins totalling more than $450.7 million at pubs and clubs across the state in FY25.
