Fundraising a way of life for Aerin

Aerin Schafferius is helping the world one fundraiser at a time.

The Mango Hill State Secondary College Year 8 student was named the Job’s Daughters Miss Charity Queensland for 2019-20 after raising the most money during a set timeframe.

In her role, she is raising money for the National Breast Cancer Foundation and the Allison Baden-Clay Foundation.

Job’s Daughters is an international organisation of young women with more than 10,000 members across Australia, the United States, Canada, the Philippines and Brazil.

Important cause

Aerin is hosting a Pink Ribbon lunch on October 18, to raise money for the National Breast Cancer Foundation, a charity close to her heart.

“Eight women in Australia lose their lives to breast cancer every day,” she says.

“My grandmother is a survivor, and my aunty is recovering from breast cancer.”

Helping the community

Aerin says she gains great satisfaction from raising money for charity, as well as awareness for important causes.

“It makes me feel good knowing that I am helping the community and helping the people around me – that’s really what has driven me.

“The money raised from the lunch will help research, which is the best way to prevent breast cancer, and improve how breast cancer is diagnosed, managed and treated.”

Local support

Aerin says she is grateful for support from the community, with Woolworths at Dakabin, Bunnings, and Kmart and Priceline at North Lakes all donating vouchers to a raffle that’s being run online and will be drawn at the Pink Ribbon lunch.

To donate prizes for Aerin’s raffle, contact Jane-Elizabeth Harris on 0412 832 484. You can buy raffle tickets here.

Tickets for the lunch, which will feature door prizes, a raffle, bingo and trivia, are available here.
