Gateway to start $2 billion upgrade

Construction on stage one of the new Gateway Motorway and Bruce Highway Upgrades is expected to start next year.

An update from Transport and Main Roads (TMR) says 'procurement' for the Gateway to Bruce Upgrade (G2BU) started in 2024.

Design on the $1 billion Bracken Ridge to Pine River section is scheduled to get under way this year and building work in 2026.

Features of G2BU include more lanes on the Gateway Motorway and improved connections to Bracken Ridge Rd and Deagon Deviation.

Also, upgrading the motorway curve at Bracken Ridge, a new Wyampa Rd bridge, noise barriers, as well as fauna fencing and underpasses.

Design will also start this year on stage two, the $948 million Bruce Highway/Gateway Motorway to Dohles Rocks Rd (BGD) upgrade.

This will involve collector/distributor roads on each side of the highway, two new Pine River bridges, fauna underpass and extending the active transport pathway.

The overall $2 billion project, from Bracken Ridge to Anzac Ave at North Lakes, is for traffic growth of more than 50 per cent in the next 20 years.

Some ‘property acquisition’ has been required to make way for the expanded Gateway and Bruce Highway.

TMR says the update will be delivered to those impacted in Bracken Ridge, Bald Hills, Sandgate, Murrumba Downs and Griffin in coming weeks.
