Generosity shines through for flood victims

BallyCara Village residents have donated $10,000 to help Moreton Bay Region people affected by last month’s floods.

Organised by the BallyCara Carers Auxiliary and BallyCara Residents’ Committee, the appeal also donated 70 large bags of donations, including linen, clothing and blankets.

Major Keith Hampton of the Redcliffe Salvation Army Corps was thrilled to be presented with a donation cheque of $10,000 by BallyCara Village General Manager James Hewat in front of 130 village residents, who cheered when the cheque was handed over.

“Ten thousand dollars?” Keith said. “I would’ve been happy with two hundred.”

Salvation Army Co-ordinator Samantha Cuthbertson was also on hand to receive the cheque.

The donation was on behalf of the BallyCara Village of Friends residents, who raised the money to help community members who had suffered during the recent devastating floods.

James praised residents for their efforts.

“It’s a tremendous effort by the residents and just another example of the generous spirit we have here at BallyCara.”
