Getting ‘Reddy’ for fun run

Runners and walkers are counting down to the seventh Reddy Fun Run, on Sunday June 21, which raises vital funds for Redcliffe Hospital.

More than 500 entrants are expected on the start line for the 21km run (6.30am), 10km run (6.40am), 10km walk (6.45am),5km run (6.55am) and 5km walk (7am).

The event starts and finishes at Pelican Park, Clontarf and has collectively raised more than $120,000 in six years. This year the aim is to top $40,000.

Reddy Fun Run has no set entry fee. Runners and walkers are asked to make a donation knowing “every step you take helps create lasting change”.

Those donations have created the Jacaranda Suite, a dedicated space providing private, respectful and patient-centred care to women and families experiencing perinatal loss and complications of pregnancy.

Funds raised have also helped refurbish two waiting rooms in Redcliffe Hospital’s Day Procedure Unit and two single end-of-life rooms in palliative care. Organisers hope to raise enough money this year to refurbish another room.

The Reddy Fun Run/Walk started in 2020, during COVID, when the Gold Coast Marathon was cancelled.

A group of women from Tom’s Law had been training for the 21km event and decided to donate their entry fees to Redcliffe Hospital.

They spread the word, raised $4000 and in partnership with Redcliffe Hospital Auxiliary the fundraiser has flourished.
