Grants boost for rising stars

The first recipients of Bright Future Grants have been revealed by State Member for Pumicestone Ariana Doolan.
Ms Doolan’s initiative aims to support local community groups and individuals chasing academic, sporting, and community opportunities.
The grants provide $250 each quarter to four recipients in the Pumicestone electorate, helping with equipment, participation costs or local projects.
“It’s a small way to give back to the people who make Pumicestone such a vibrant and inspiring place,” Ms Doolan said.
Among the first recipients were:
- Levi Davidson, a dedicated weightlifter from Bribie Island, working toward qualifying for Nationals
- Leo Melia, a 5-year-old kart racing prodigy from Beachmere, already making waves on the regional circuit
- Ruby Viterale, an 11-year-old basketballer selected for the representative Wizards team, balancing sport, school, and the arts
- Bribie Men's Shed, seeking to improve member safety and access by installing a digital entry system
- Sophiya Gordon-Daveson, a 12-year-old high-performance gymnast at Delta Gymnastics with dreams of representing Australia, currently fundraising to compete in New Zealand
- Stephen Pooler, organiser of two Man Walk groups in the region, who will use the grant toward purchasing defibrillators to support men's health and wellbeing
There were “dozens of strong applications” which could not all be supported this time.
“Your efforts are valued, and I encourage you to apply again in the next round, which opens in August,” Ms Doolan said.
“I was so impressed I handed out two more than expected.”
