An urgent review has been ordered into the Bribie Island breakthrough which is growing and raising concerns for residents and businesses.
Large waves caused by ex-Tropical Cyclone Seth cut a channel through the northern section of Bribie, opposite Caloundra, in 2022.
Since then, the breakthrough has widened and the impact of Tropical Cyclone Aldred, this month, heightened fears for properties at Golden Beach.
The Queensland Government has today actioned a review by an independent expert to focus on options to address community concerns.
Locals will have their say through community consultation as long-term solutions are identified.
“For too long community concerns have been ignored,” Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning, Jarrod Bleijie said.
“This is why we will ensure this review will deliver public consultation so locals can have their say.
“Pumicestone Passage is an important part of the world, attracting thousands of locals and visitors each year to enjoy its beauty.
“An expert review independent of the Department of Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation will work to identify long-term solutions to address community concerns.”
Member for Caloundra Kendall Morton has urged local resident to have their say.
“This is a significant issue in our community, and I urge everyone who is passionate about it to come forward and work with us,” she said.
The Department of State Development, Infrastructure and Planning will now finalise the review Terms of Reference.
