Green light for Narangba East planning
City of Moreton Bay has been given two years to complete a Planning Scheme amendment that will confirm future land use and infrastructure for Narangba East.
State Deputy Premier Jarrod Bleijie has approved a new Temporary Local Planning Instrument (TPLI) – Narangba East Proposed Future Housing and Employment Area and Early Release Area.
This will extend the current TLPI conditions until June 18, 2028 and comes with the added conditions to include future housing outcomes in the TLPI area.
Council also has to prepare an associated Planning Scheme amendment during the two-years of the new TLPI, that aligns with its initial timeframe.
Deputy Premier Bleijie has also accepted Council’s proposal to include an Early Release Area of land fronting industry along Old Gympie Rd and Richards Rd.
This will allow a small portion of the TLPI area to transition into appropriate enterprise and employment uses, subject to impacts on such as housing and the environment.
“This is an important step to allow Council time to complete planning work for the broader Narangba East Rural Residential Investigation Area (RRIA) and it gives residents a clearer pathway forward,” Council Deputy Mayor Jodie Shipway said.
“The TLPI will support local jobs, housing and environmental interests by ensuring the Narangba East TLPI Area cannot be compromised by incompatible development applications that could fragment planning outcomes for the broader community.
“It also continues to protect landowner rights under the current rural residential zoning until our planning is completed and we’ve had a chance to further consult with the community.”
City of Moreton Bay had planned to present a draft Future Directions Report for the Narangba East RRIA to the community for feedback in mid-2026.
This will now be reviewed to allow time to consider the conditions on future land use outcomes and make the necessary amendments to the draft report.
