Helping wildlife feel at home
Moreton Bay Wildlife Hospital Foundation has teamed up with AVID Property Group – which has started construction of Elan in Warner – to help local wildlife.
The developer has partnered with the foundation as part of its Community Stewardship Program, to educate on green space preservation and protect the environment.
AVID will be donating $50,000 annually to the not-for-profit hospital foundation, bringing the total donation to $200,000.
Founding board member Christine West said the partnership will help set up the region’s first dedicated wildlife hospital.
“Wildlife is a distinct part of the Moreton Bay region, with over 800 animal species – 55 of which are endangered, vulnerable or near threatened, including the beloved koala,” Ms West said.
“As one of the fastest growing regions in Australia, we desperately need a dedicated specialist wildlife hospital where injured and orphaned native animals can be treated by veterinary professionals.
“We also need the general public to be educated on how to best care for wildlife and their habitats, which is what makes our partnership with AVID so valuable.
“Not only will their financial support help us establish the wildlife hospital, but the Élan Community Stewardship Program will provide educational opportunities for community members.”
AVID General Manager Queensland Anthony Demiris said: “We established the Élan Community Stewardship Program to provide our residents with purpose-led education about the environment they are moving into and how to protect it.
“Through our partnership with the Moreton Bay Wildlife Hospital Foundation, we have an opportunity to ensure the Élan community and Moreton Bay region wildlife can coexist and thrive together for many years to come.”
