Justice puts on Classic show
Caboolture’s Justice Bosio was in commanding form at Friday’s Cameron Smith Junior Classic (CSJC) before heading south this week on the next leg of her busy summer of golf.
The 16-year old’s superb start at Wantima Country Club on Friday paved the way for a dominant win at the 2020 CSJC with her career-best single-round score of 64.
Harry Takis, from Nudgee Golf Club, finished with two birdies to win the boys’ title and Brock Olive, from Dingo, had the junior classic’s first hole-in-one.
Birdie blitz
Justice, who lives right beside Caboolture Golf Club, opened with three birdies and was seven under par after nine holes on Friday – a lead she never surrendered.
“It feels good adding the Cameron Smith Junior Classic to the list,” says Justice, “I’d love to be able to follow his footsteps …. but on the ladies’ tour.
“I had a lesson with my coach Richard Woodhouse, tweaked a few things and was hitting my driver really well out there. I had some good approach shots and sunk a lot of birdie putts.
“This is my best score. The previous best was six under.”
Biggest win
Justice had “probably the biggest win” of her career last month landing the first women’s event at the Keperra Bowl. Having just missed the two-round cut, she then posted successive rounds of 67 and took the title!
Justice is at the Greg Norman Junior Masters on the Gold Coast this week and in January has the Australian Master of the Amateurs in Victoria, a tournament in Avondale and then the NSW Amateur Championships.
Delighted
Harry Takis’ 65 was a shot off his best round (64 at Woodford two weeks ago) but it was still good enough to win the CSJC Boys’ Championship.
The 15-year-old from Nudgee Golf Club was in the final playing group and had birdies on the last two holes to win by three shots.
“This is a trophy I’ve wanted to win - and I’m delighted to have done it,” says Harry. “I’ve played here a couple of times. It’s an awesomely-run event.
“I felt I played well but didn’t know if I was going to close it out in the final holes. Those two birdies got it done.”
Brock’s ace
Brock Olive may not have won a major award, but he did have the first hole-in-one in the four-year history of the CSJC – and the first ace of his career.
The 17-year-old hit a six iron on the 162-yard 12th hole, aiming six feet from the hole. “The boys didn’t see it land and I thought it was long gone,” says Brock.
“It was only when we got there, Tom saw it in the hole! It felt good. My Dad will be thrilled.”
Cam’s message
That will delight top Australian golfer Cameron Smith, who grew up in Pine Rivers, learned to play golf at Wantima and is now world ranked 27.
Cameron was unable to be at the junior classic which bears his name due to travel restrictions from the US, where he is now based.
But he sent a special video message: “I hope everyone had a good day, hope you played well, enjoyed the company and enjoyed the course.
“I’m really sorry I can’t be there. I would have loved to be there, seeing all you play. Hopefully, I can next year.”
