Key stage in $176m road upgrade
Expressions of interest (EOI) are now open for the duplication of the Linkfield Rd overpass across Gympie Rd, near Brendale.
The overpass, jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments, will be duplicated to four lanes with a six-metre height clearance.
It will help also reduce the chance for bridge strikes along the major arterial road.
The Linkfield Rd Overpass EOI will be combined with the Beams Rd and Gympie Rd Intersection Upgrade EOI.
Federal Government has committed $125.5 million and State Government $50.5 million to fund the $176 million overpass project.
“We are now one step closer to getting this important project underway,” Federal Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Catherine King said.
“This project will significantly improve safety and ensure that freight can move more efficiently through the region.”
Queensland Minister for Transport and Main Roads Brent Mickelberg said: “Duplicating the overpass with a six-metre clearance means commuters will reduce the chance of bridge strikes that can close the road.
“Bridge strikes are a risk at this location, and these works will be a significant step in helping address the risk on a major arterial location.”
Federal Member for Petrie Emma Comer added: “Releasing this EOI is a significant step in delivering this project for the local community.”
Federal Member for Dickson Ali France said moving the project “one step closer to construction is great news for my community, many of which use this road every day”.
