Kids Fest a load of laughs

The stage is set for a day jam-packed with family fun for this year’s Moreton Kids Festival.

Back for its fourth year, and with a Queensland Health-approved COVID Safety Plan in place, the festival promises loads of activities, workshops and entertainment on October 18.

Moreton Bay Region Industry and Tourism CEO Shane Newcombe says he can’t wait to see smiling faces enjoying the festival fun in a year that hasn’t been much fun for kids.

Back on stage

Stunt performer Joel Fenton is counting the sleeps until his Comedy Circus Stunt show is on the Strathpine Centre Main Stage at the festival.

Having performed locally and internationally for more than 20 years, Fenton says being forced off-stage due to COVID-19 restrictions has been a challenge.

“I’ve done one or two smaller shows in the past month, but this will be my first big event since January,” he says.

Fenton says he has spent the time away from the stage productively, refining some additions to his act.

“I take a lot of inspiration from Vaudeville and one of the new things I’ll be doing is balancing a golf club on top of a golf ball on top of a gold club on top of a golf ball on my face.”

Host of performances

Fenton’s act includes juggling running chainsaws and climbing inside a giant balloon.

Also taking to the main stage will be Peppa and George Pig, who will perform two live shows.

Mayor Peter Flannery says Kids Fest is always one of the biggest events on the local calendar, but this year it takes on a whole new importance.

“This year's event is bursting back onto the events scene bigger and better than ever, with fun and entertainment everywhere you look in Pine Rivers Park,” Mayor Flannery says.
