UPDATE: Four people killed after light plane crash

Police have confirmed four people have died following a plane crash near Redcliffe.

Police and emergency services responded to reports a small plane crashed in waters off the coast of Redcliffe shortly after 9am.

A multi-agency operation is underway with Queensland Water Police officers and divers along with the Forensic Crash Unit assisting other agencies, including the Australian Transport Safety Bureau, as investigations continue.

There is no further information about those on board at this stage.

Police divers are frantically trying to reach a light aircraft that has crashed into waters near the Redcliffe airfield.

Police Commissioner Katarina Carroll said the plane was in a difficult position.

“I can confirm that there has been a light plane crash at the end of the runway at Redcliffe airfield today,” she says.

“The plane is in a difficult position in the wetland area and we have police and divers travelling to the area.

“I can’t confirm the number of passengers.”

Police are unable to confirm the make and model of the plane.
