A childcare centre has been added to plans for a new shopping complex near one of Moreton Bay’s biggest infrastructure projects.

The addition, to an application already approved by Moreton Bay City Council, is for an 11-hectare site at 274 Youngs Crossing Rd, Joyner.

If approved, the new childcare centre will join shops, a service station, food and drink outlet and healthcare, which were given the green light in 2022.

All will be 200m from where work officially started just last week on a new $80 million 212-metre bridge over Youngs Crossing.

The developer, O’Keeffe Group Qld, said it recognises “the need for expanded and improved childcare services within the broader Joyner community”.

“We are currently seeking to amend our approved neighbourhood hub at Youngs Crossing Road to include a state-of-the-art childcare centre,” the O’Keeffe Group said.

“This centre will complement the approved uses on site by enhancing the functionality of this important local meeting place.

“We are looking forward to opening the doors to our neighbours.”

The “change application”, lodged with Moreton Bay City Council, proposes a childcare centre for up to 160 children and around 30 staff at the front of the development.

Discussions have been held with Absorbent Minds Montessori Early Education over the new childcare service, according to documents on Council’s website.

Space for health care services has also increased to 570sqm in a dedicated building and the shopping centre will have 125 parking spaces, five for those with a disability.

A house, sheds, storage, stables and horse paddocks are currently on the land. All will be removed for the proposed development.
