Major changes, new electorate, new name
Moreton Bay will get a new State electorate, see changes to 10 districts and have one renamed if proposals by the Queensland Redistribution Commission are adopted.
Recommendations include a new district of Caboolture, making “significant” changes” to Morayfield, Pumicestone and Glass House - and renaming Bancroft as Deception Bay.
Creating the new “Caboolture” district will reduce the number of electors in surrounding districts and bring Murrumba “back into quota”.
The new district will include a “central portion” of Caboolture and expand west along the line of the D’Aguilar Highway.
Boundaries of Pumicestone and Deception Bay (formerly Bancroft) will move east, while the only significant change to Pine Rivers will be the addition of Ocean View.
The Commission highlights Morayfield is one of five districts which will see significant growth and “exceed their quota” by 2032.
Redistributing electorates is required by law as it is seven-and-a-half years since the last changes which help balance the number of electors in each district.

Pine Rivers – minimal change
Loses: Jolly Lookout to Ashgrove (formerly Cooper)
Gains: Ocean View from Glass House
Under the proposals Pine Rivers would include Strathpine, most of Lawnton, Bray Park, Brendale, Warner, Cashmere, Samford Valley, Dayboro and the area west to the boundary of Moreton Bay City Council’s area.
Kurwongbah – minimal change
Loses: Part of Narangba and Burpengary to Morayfield and a section of Petrie to Murrumba.
Gains: Most of Dakabin from Murrumba.
Under the proposals Kurwongbah would include Kurwongbah, Whiteside, Joyner, most of Petrie, Dakabin and Narangba and parts of Lawnton, Bray Park and Burpengary.
Projected to exceed its quota by 2032, changes are to improve enrolment in the surrounding districts, such as the significantly over-quota Murrumba and Morayfield, which will be impacted by the creation of Caboolture.
Murrumba – moderate change
Loses: Most of Dakabin to Kurwongbah, parts of Rothwell and Kippa-Ring to Deception Bay, and a small portion of Newport to Redcliffe.
Gains: a portion of Petrie from Kurwongbah.
Under the proposals Murrumba would include Kallangur, Murrumba Downs, Griffin, most of Mango Hill and small portions of Petrie and Dakabin.
Murrumba would be 26 per cent over its quota if boundaries were not changed by 2032. With the changes it will be 8.74 per cent over.
The Commission says Murrumba Downs, Kallangur, Mango Hill and Griffin “have shared communities of interest and the proposed approach enables the retention of existing boundaries aligned to the rail line, waterways and major roads to the extent practicable”.
Redcliffe – minimal change
Loses: Part of Kippa-Ring to Deception Bay.
Gains: Balance of Newport from Murrumba.
Under the changes Redcliffe would include Redcliffe, Scarborough, Margate, Woody Point, Clontarf, Newport, Moreton Island and part of Kippa-Ring.
The Commission says Redcliffe is projected to exceed its quota and gaining “the balance of Newport” will correct “an issue where the current boundary bisects a newly-developed estate not aligned to a recognisable feature or other boundary. This change will improve clarity for electors and administration of the electoral roll”.
Deception Bay (formerly Bancroft) – moderate change
Loses: Northern part of Burpengary East (north of Burpengary Creek) and section of Morayfield currently in Pumicestone.
Gains: Rothwell and Kippa-Ring from Murrumba and part of Kippa-Ring from Redcliffe.
Under the proposals Deception Bay will include Deception Bay, North Lakes, Rothwell, parts of Burpengary East, Narangba, Mango Hill and Kippa-Ring.
This moves the newly-named district “slightly south” but keeps the “strong western boundary along the Bruce Highway and relieves enrolment pressure on Murrumba”.
Morayfield - significant change
Loses: Caboolture and Bellmere to the proposed Caboolture district.
Gains: parts of Burpengary and Narangba from Kurwongbah; Upper Caboolture, Moorina, Lilywood, Rocksberg, Greenstone and part of Wagtail Grove from Glass House.
Under the changes Morayfield would include Morayfield, Caboolture South, Upper Caboolture, Moorina, Lilywood, Rocksberg, Greenstone, and parts of Burpengary and Wagtail Grove.
This enables the fast-growing Morayfield district to remain centred on its locality and expand west, gaining Upper Caboolture and its surrounds from Glass House. Morayfield is also projected to exceed its quota by 2032.
Pumicestone – significant change
Loses: Moodlu and parts of Caboolture and Elimbah west of the Bruce Highway to the new Caboolture district.
Gains: Part of Burpengary East and Morayfield from Deception Bay, Coochin Creek and the eastern section of Beerburrum from Glass House and Caloundra.
Under the changes Pumicestone will include Bribie Island, Coochin Creek, Donnybrook, Meldale, Toorbul, Ningi, Sandstone Point, Godwin Beach, Beachmere; parts of Burpengary East, Morayfield, Caboolture, Elimbah and Beerburrum.
The Commission proposes all Pumicestone west of the Bruce Highway transfers to the new Caboolture district. Pumicestone’s southern border goes further south to “align with Burpengary Creek” and includes the entire Pumicestone Passage.
Caboolture - new district
Gains: Caboolture west of the Bruce Highway, Bellmere from Morayfield, Moodlu and parts of Caboolture and Elimbah from Pumicestone, Moreton Bay City Council localities from Glass House.
Under the changes, Caboolture would include Caboolture and Elimbah west of the highway. Corymbia, the northern part of Wagtail Grove, Moodlu, Bellmere, Waraba, Wamuran, Campbell’s Pocket and Mount Mee, Woodford and D’Aguilar.
The proposed district is at the lower end of the enrolment threshold, projected to grow to around the mid-point above the average by 2032. The electorate name of Caboolture returns after almost 24 years.
Overlapping State Electorates
Glass House – significant change
Loses: Include Ocean View to Pine Rivers, Coochin Creek and Beerburrum east of the highway to Pumicestone, southern areas around Upper Caboolture to Morayfield, remaining Moreton Bay City Council areas to Caboolture.
Gains: Include Beerwah, Landsborough, Glenview and part of Palmview west of the highway from Caloundra.
Under the changes Glass House would include Glass House Mountains, part of Beerburrum, Peachester, Beerwah, Landsborough, Glenview, Tanawha, Ilkley, Chevallum, Palmwoods, Mooloolah Valley, Maleny, Montville, Witta, Reesville, Conondale and surrounds.
The changes will “align the eastern boundary of Glass House wholly to the Bruce Highway” and gains are offset by losing areas to Caboolture.
Aspley- minimal change
Loses: Include part of Albany Creek to Everton.
Gains: Include part of Brisbane Downs from Everton and part of Chermside from Stafford.
Under the changes Aspley will include Aspley, McDowall, Bridgeman Downs, Carseldine, most of Bald Hills and portions of Zillmere, Chermside, Chermside West and Wavell Heights.
Everton – minimal change
Loses: Include part of Mitchelton to Ferny Grove an d balance of Bridgeman Downs to Aspley.
Gains: Part of McDowall and Albany Creek from Aspley, balance of Bunya from Ferny Grove.
Under the changes Everton will include Everton Park, Everton Hills, Albany Creek, Eatons Hill, Bunya and parts of Mitchelton, Keperra, Arana Hills, Warner and Brendale.
Ferny Grove – minimal change
Loses: Part of Ashgrove to Ashgrove (formerly Cooper), Bunya to Everton.
Gains: Balance Enoggera and Gaythorne and part of Mitchelton from Everton.
Under the changes Ferny Grove will include Ferny Grove, Ferny Hills, Upper Kedron, Enoggera, Gaythorne, most of Arana Hills, Keperra and Mitchelton and parts of Alderley, Ashgrove and Newmarket.
