Makeover planned for CREEC
A nature-based playground, a new picnic hub and new meeting rooms could be included in an upgrade of the Caboolture Regional Environmental Education Centre (CREEC) under a draft masterplan released for the precinct.
Moreton Bay Regional Council has released the CREEC draft masterplan for community consultation, which closes on October 30.
Mayor Peter Flannery says Council wants to enhance the recreation, education and environmental experiences already on offer at the centre.
Keeping pace with expectations
“CREEC is a local favourite for residents, school groups and childcare centres, so we need to make sure it keeps pace with community expectations and modern standards,” Mayor Flannery says.
“This has never been more important than in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has reminded us all of the importance of outdoor recreation and getting back to nature for our health and wellbeing.
“We’ve included designs for a new nature-based playground with a range of modern features to complement the existing all-abilities playground.”
The masterplan also includes improvements to the education centre, new picnic tables and seats and expanding the trail network to ensure they are inclusive and accessible for all.
Locals can get involved
Cr Tony Latter (Div 12) says Council was already planning essential upgrades to the CREEC play facility, carpark, power and wastewater system.
“So we’re taking this opportunity to take the first steps towards a new future for CREEC and I want to hear what locals have to say,” Cr Latter says.
Cr Latter is encouraging people to visit Council’s website to view more detailed information and submit feedback online, in person at CREEC or to attend a dedicated information session where they can ask questions of Council staff and consultants.
“We’re asking the whole community to get involved through this consultation to make sure our vision covers the needs of people who are as passionate about CREEC as we are.”

A public information session will be held at CREEC, 150-196 Rowley Rd, Burpengary, on Saturday, October 24 from 9am-noon.
