Motorists warned of highway changes
Major changes are coming for motorists using the Bruce Highway in Moreton Bay over the next three weeks. As part of the $2 billion highway upgrade, temporary lane changes will be in place between Dohles Rocks Rd and Anzac Avenue from Sunday. Transport and Main Roads (TMR) says this will involve traffic moving onto newly built lanes so construction on the upgrade can continue.
Northbound Bruce Highway:
From Sunday the northbound right-hand (fast) lane will be separated from the left lanes using barriers from Dohles Rocks Road until after the Anzac Ave interchange.
During this time, traffic exiting at Anzac Ave must be in the left or middle lane before the separation. This will be in place for approximately three weeks - weather and construction schedule permitting.
Southbound Bruce Highway:
From late April/early May the southbound right-hand (fast) lane will be separated from the middle and left lanes before the Anzac Ave entry ramp and merge back with the other lanes at the bridge over Dohles Rocks Rd.
Traffic entering the Bruce Highway at the entry ramp from Anzac Ave will be unable to access the fast lane until it merges back around the entry ramp from Dohles Rocks Rd.
This will also be in place for three weeks - weather and construction schedule permitting.
Night works:
At night, the fast lanes will be closed to traffic to allow pavement works to be completed safely.
Pavement machinery and temporary lighting will be used. Motorists can also expect reduced speeds and traffic management. Once each side is complete, traffic will be moved onto the new pavement to allow work sites to be set up on the outside of the highway.
TMR says there is the potential of noise, light and odour from the pavement works taking place at night from April 12 to late May.
Motorcyclists:
From Sunday, motorcyclists will be prohibited from lane splitting or travelling along the edge of traffic between Dohles Rocks Road and Anzac Avenue. This will be in place until the project is complete.
