Multi-billion dollar road plans
Above: Planned changes at the Bruce Highway-Dohles Rocks Rd interchange.
More than 20 major infrastructure projects are under way in or close to the City of Moreton Bay. Here’s an update from the Transport and Main Roads' (TMR) website on plans, designs and progress ....
Bruce Highway upgrade - Anzac Ave to Ulhmann Rd: Planning (business case)
Initial plans for this 12.9km section are to use the central median strip for an additional traffic lane in each direction, increasing the highway from 3 to 4 each way, as well as active transport facilities and consideration to replace the Frawley Ave/Potassium St and Station Rd/Arthur Drewett Dr overpasses.
Bruce Highway upgrade - Buchanan Rd to Caboolture/Bribie Island Rd: Planning (business case)
TMR says: “The planning will identify and assess a long-term solution to meet future traffic growth, reduce congestion and improve efficiency, safety and flood immunity.” Options include additional north and south lanes or adding 1-way, 2-lane collector-distributor roads on both sides of the highway between Uhlmann Rd and Caboolture-Bribie Island Rd. “Separating shorter local trips from highway traffic reduces weaving with entering and exiting the highway,” says TMR.
Gateway Motorway - Bracken Ridge to Pine River upgrade – Procurement
This will see more motorway lanes, better connections with the Bruce Highway, Bracken Ridge Rd and Deagon Deviation, an upgraded motorway curve at Bracken Ridge, a shared pedestrian and bicycle path on the northern side, with better connections to Barfoot St, Deagon Deviation and Wyampa Rd. Planning considered future upgrades of the Gateway Motorway from 6 to 8 lanes between Nudgee to Bracken Ridge.
Bruce Highway upgrade - Stage 1 Gateway to Dohles Rocks Rd: Procurement
Construction to start next year on adding lanes for the Gateway Motorway and improve connections with the Bruce Highway, Bracken Ridge Rd and Deagon Deviation. Also, upgrading the Gateway Motorway curve at Bracken Ridge and a new shared pedestrian and bicycle path on the north side of the motorway.

Bruce Highway upgrade - Uhlmann Rd to Buchanan Rd: Planning (business case)
Options under investigation for future traffic growth, are adding north and south lanes or 1-way, 2-lane collector-distributor roads on both sides of the highway. Again, separating shorter local trips from highway traffic reduces traffic and weaving. Project also includes active transport facilities.
Bruce Highway upgrade - Dohles Rocks Rd to Anzac Ave Stage 1: Construction started
A new northbound entry ramp from Dohles Rocks Rd will extend to the Anzac Ave exit as an additional lane and a new southbound exit to Dohles Rocks Rd, as an auxiliary lane from Anzac Ave. New ramp signals northbound, upgrades to Dohles Rocks Rd traffic lights, new and upgrades to existing noise barriers. Future stages will see collector-distributor roads on both sides of the highway, upgrades to the Anzac Ave interchange and a pedestrian and bicycle path.
Bruce Highway Pine River to Cairns Road Operations Improvements: Finish mid-2025
CCTV cameras at key locations for traffic monitoring and Flood Monitoring Systems at known flood locations to assist Traffic Management Centre operators. Wireless Traffic Sensors devices at 10km intervals for real-time traffic and traffic congestion. Traveller Information System (electronic signage) will provide live road conditions and information about road closures, hazards and potential delays.
Linkfield Road Overpass upgrade: Pre-construction
Early work has started to make Linkfield Rd four lanes (two each way) between Gympie Rd and Lacey Rd and a new overpass clearance of 6m (up from 4.7m). Also upgrading north and southbound entry ramps, extending the southbound exit ramp, signalise ramp intersections and adding pathways for pedestrians, riders and cyclists.
