Mural competition to transform shipping container

Caboolture Police are on the hunt for creative artists to help decorate a shipping container recently installed at the back of the police station.

Moreton Police community engagement officer Senior-Constable Jo Arthur says the Caboolture Crime Stoppers group’s container would be used to store equipment, but police were keen to turn it into a work of art to unite the community.

“Unfortunately, it is not very pleasant to look at,” Sen-Constable Arthur says.

“We are inviting the people of Moreton to get creative and come up with a mural design for the side of the container.

“The side we want you to paint will face the neighbouring block, where the new Caboolture PCYC is being built.”

Paint supplied

Sen-Constable Arthur says everyone who visits the PCYC will see the art, and police are keen for it to be eye-catching.

“The designs will be voted on by a panel of judges, who will decide who gets to bring their design to life, and of course, have bragging rights.

“Oh and did we mention, there are prizes to be won.”

Sen-Constable Arthur says Bunnings Caboolture and Dulux will join police to bring the project to life, supplying those behind the winning entry with everything they need to complete the mural.

“People of all ages are invited to participate in the project, which we hope will invigorate minds and enhance community relationships,” Sen-Constable Arthur says.

“The theme for the mural is ‘Making our community safer’.”

Added inspiration

“Maybe the PCYC ethos – ‘Together we are building safer, healthier communities through youth development’, will inspire you.

“PCYC Queensland’s three pillars – youth development, crime prevention and community engagement – underpin all that they do.

Artists could also check out Crime Stoppers Australia, Crime Stoppers Queensland and the Crime Prevention page for inspiration.

Sen-Constable Arthur says the container is 5.9m long and 2.39m high and will be cleaned, rust treated and primed ready to receive its face lift by the end of May.

The competition is open to residents of the Moreton Police district.

The district takes in areas policed by the following police stations: Petrie; Mango Hill; North Lakes; Redcliffe; Deception Bay; Burpengary; Dayboro; Kilcoy; Woodford; Moore; Bribie Island and Caboolture.

Entries close on May 5. To submit your design, email Moreton.media@police.qld.gov.au.
