New $24 million facilities at two schools
Lee Street State Special School in Caboolture was not the only school celebrating the official opening of its latest facilities on Friday.
The $24.4 million project included the development of two two-storey buildings and a multi-purpose hall shared with neighbouring Caboolture State High School.
The Stage 2 facilities give two learning centres adding 20 new learning areas, collaboration and practical skills spaces, as well as therapy and sensory rooms.
Huge difference
The multi-purpose hall, on the Caboolture State High School campus, has a stage and large performance space, multi-purpose sports courts, dance studios, a gym, kiosk, amenities and a music therapy room.
“These buildings make a huge difference to the learning opportunities we can offer our students,” Lee Street State Special School Principal Aaron Morgan said:
“Having the hall as a shared facility builds on our already strong and supportive bonds with our neighbour Caboolture State High School and its student body.”
Caboolture State High School Principal Fiona Free said: “We encourage positive supportive interactions between our students and the students of Lee Street State Special School, and the shared hall will only help foster this relationship.”
Education Minister Grace Grace said the project was “a fantastic example of how collaboration and cooperation between schools can benefit two school communities.”
Mark Ryan, State Member for Morayfield, added: “Good education is the foundation of every great community.
Better opportunities
“These new facilities mean students at both Lee Street and Caboolture State High have even better opportunities to become outstanding members of our local community.”
Construction of the facilities was completed by Badge Constructions.
Stage 2a of the project supported an average of 26 jobs during 2019-20 financial year and Stage 2b an average of 14 jobs from 2021-21 to 2022-23.
