New club to open on historic site

A new community club, Sports Central Caboolture, will open next month, replacing the historic Caboolture RSL which is to close on September 13.

Sports Central Caboolture will be launched by Caboolture Sports Club Group (CSC), the current owner of the RSL building in Hasking St.

It will open on Monday September 28 subject to Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation (OLGR) approval for the transfer of Liquor and Gaming licenses.

The Caboolture Morayfield and District RSL Sub-Branch will continue to meet and run its community service from the venue.

“It’s important that we respect and look after this long-standing community service,” CSC Group CEO Kelvin Patch says.

“The CSC Group will provide the RSL Sub-Branch with complimentary office space to help them continue to service the community.”

Supporting staff

CSC has worked behind the scenes to support existing RSL staff. The majority will be re-employed by the new not-for-profit club.

The CSC Group already operates Caboolture Sports Club, North Lakes Sports Club, Centenary Lakes Sports Club and Function Centre.

The clubs pay more than $10 million in wages every year and put more than $1.9 million back into local sport and local community.

Sports Central Caboolture will have a bistro, café, gaming lounge, bar facilities, and three function spaces. It will also receive a small facelift before reopening.

Memberships of $5.50 a year or $3.30 for seniors can be made via the Caboolture Sports Club or North Lakes Sports Club websites.

Profound sadness

The announcement follows yesterday’s email to staff and members by the Caboolture RSL Board of Directors saying it was “with deep regret and profound sadness” the not-for-profit club is to shut.

Caboolture Citizens and Services Club Limited, trading as Caboolture RSL Club, has operated from the same site for more than 50 years with a number of major upgrades, the most recent in the mid-1990s.

Caboolture RSL Club general members are being invited to a closure information session on Thursday, September 3 at 6.30pm

Social members are being invited to a similar session on Saturday September 5 at 11.30am.

The Caboolture RSL Club Platinum rewards program will cease on Monday September 7 at 10am. All points are to be redeemed by the close of business on September 13.
